NOTE

VERBAL E.

The Imperial Foreign Office would be indebted to

the American Embassy, if the American Consul at Hongkong could be

induced to interest himself anew with all possible despatch in the

condition of Germans detained on the isle of Hongkong and on other

islands nearby and particularly, by visiting the prison coup, to

convince himself of the fact that the British authorities have

taken such steps in an extensive way, as are necessary and appro-

-priate to protect the interned from danger to their lives and

health during the hot and unfavourable time of the year, which has

now commenced.

The Imperial Foreign Office awaits information with

interest to the effect that the American Consul at Hon kong has

taken the necessary steps in this direction.

Berlin, June 5th., 1915.
